5 Skincare Mistakes to Avoid this Halloween
What are your skincare horror stories? Halloween is just around the corner, and your probably are dressing up for a party or you're hitting the bar for the night. Whatever your Halloween plan is, make sure to avoid these 5 skincare mistakes. Don’t let the horror go past Halloween!
Mistake #1: Not Exfoliating Days Before
One of the most common mistakes everyone makes is not exfoliating regularly. Exfoliation can help remove dirt and slough off dead skin cells that make the skin look dull. In addition, exfoliating regularly can help stimulate collagen production and result in a softer skin texture and keep the skin plump and healthy looking.
But why is exfoliating important for pre-Halloween skincare? One, exfoliating can make your makeup or face paint glide on smoothly. Two, it sheds the old skin and prevents further breakouts.
Mistake #2: Forgetting to Moisturize
Another skincare mistake that most people make is skipping moisturizer. Moisturizing can prevent your makeup from turning cakey and protect your skin from dry patches. Another importance of moisturizing is that it provides a perfectly smooth base for your makeup. A little tip for perfect application is to wait a few minutes for the moisturizer to be absorbed by the skin before applying your makeup (this will prevent it from looking splotchy).
Mistake #3: Forgetting to Wipe Off Makeup or Face Paint
After a long night, you’ll probably be tempted to sleep with your makeup on or even skip the cleanser for the next day. No matter how drunk or tired you are, take time to wipe off your makeup and wash your face with a gentle face cleanser to remove the dirt, oil, and bacteria on your skin (better if you have the time and energy to double cleanse).
But why is sleeping with makeup not recommended? The truth is, most make up and face paints contain ingredients that can clog the pores that can trap oil and acne causing bacteria that can lead to breakouts and wrinkles. Your makeup and the oil from your face may also transfer to your bed sheet and pillowcase which could potentially be a future nest for bacteria — especially if you do not wash your sheets regularly.
Mistake #4: Overly Indulging on Halloween Candies
Sweet treats and candies are everywhere during Halloween. But did you know that too much sugar can lead to acne breakouts and wrinkles? Overly consumption of sugar can accelerate the aging process and cause sagging skin, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity. Here are a few ways to cut down on your sugar:
- Go easy on Halloween chocolates and treats.
- Cut down on sugary drinks like sodas, fruit juices, cocktails, beer, boba tea, and other processed sugary drinks.
- Check the label and look at the ingredients and sugar contents.
Mistake #5: Not Hydrating After a Night Out
If you are going out and having a few drinks on Halloween, make sure to hydrate and replenish lost liquids in your system. Alcohol can cause dehydration that can make way for dry and cracked skin.
Do you ever wonder why your skin looks dull after a night out partying? It’s not only because you lack sleep, but it is also because alcohol is a diuretic. Meaning, it can make you lose vitamins and nutrients from your body and can make you lose fluids that keep the skin hydrated and moisturized. Be sure to drink plenty of water to prevent irreversible damage to the skin and premature aging.
